Distribution transformer
Distribution transformers are fundamental components of the power distribution system and are relatively low cost, highly reliable, and efficient.
Distribution transformers usually have ratings but for two hundred kVA, though some national standards will allow units up to 5000 kVA to be represented as distribution transformers.
Since distribution transformers are energized for twenty-four hours on a daily basis, reducing iron losses has a very important role in their design.
As they typically do not operate at full load, they're designed to own most potency at lower loads.
To have better efficiency, voltage regulation in these transformers should be kept to a minimum. Hence they are designed to have small leakage reactance.
Advantages:
  • Reduced line loss: The distribution substation is the electrical hub for the distribution network.
  • Power quality: Mitigation equipment is essential to maintain power quality over distribution feeders.
  • Deferred capital expenses.
  • Energy cost reduction.
  • Optimal energy use.
  • Economic benefits.
  • Improved reliability.
  • Compatibility.
