Usage and Benefits of the Isolation Transformer

In general. Transformers are electromagnetic devices that transform electric energy from primary to secondary winding. With the use of transformer core magnetic field, the energy is transformed in equal or approximately equal power frequency.

The isolation transformers are also used in the same way as other transformers, but in this, they provide the galvanic isolation in the electrical system. The galvanic isolation is the principle of isolating different sections of electrical systems to prevent current flow. These isolation transformers can work as step-up or step-down transformers and as equal values i.e. 1:1 ratio in primary and secondary voltage.

Usage of Isolation Transformers:

Isolation transformers are widely used in applications or systems where the electrical noise needs to be suppressed such as devices like computers, medical devices and laboratory instruments. They are highly found in devices that have sensitive circuits and cannot withstand alternating current directly. Such as in power adapters, cell phones, and other electronic devices.

These isolation transformers are used for its safety features and in the industries and devices that include medical equipment, telecommunication equipment, CNC machines, analytical instruments, remote control equipment, computers & peripherals, etc.

Benefits of Isolation Transformers:

There are a multitude of benefits of isolation transformers;

·         Isolation transformers have the capacity to block transferring of the Direct Current component in signals from one circuit to the other and can allow Alternative Current components in signals to pass.
·         It can prevent ground loops while keeping the different stages electrically isolated
·         It prevents harmonics from transferring from one side to the other side.
·         Various circuits and its isolations can be easily substituted by using isolation transformers.
·         The secondary and primary windings can be separated by the 1:1 ratio of the isolation transformers.
·         It prevents electric shock risks by uniting the electric power source with the vessel.
·         They help in separating the resource from the person in such a way that the electric wires do not come in contact with the power lines.
·         Using an isolation transformer, all types of sound and noise can be easily reduced.
